Welcome! The body mirage blog is a creative outlet for me to share my passion for spreading awareness, education, and my personal experience with eating disorders and mental illness. I’ve battled with anorexia and it’s after effects for eight years.
My body became a mirage, illusory, without substance or reality, utterly unattainable. The word mirage originates from the Latin mirari, meaning “to look at, to wonder at.” For years this is exactly what I did to my body, stare, analyze, judge, and wonder.
I’m a strong believer in the more that people talk about things that are taboo in society, the more normalized and accepted they become. Sharing my struggles is immensely scary, but the relief that comes from unfolding the secret side of what I deal with is healing for me and for others that experience the same private thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
I hope you read, withhold judgment, and benefit from these memoir snippets. I am no longer anorexia, but anorexia is still a daily part of me.
